Why is Your Fast Computer Going so Slow?
If your computers are fairly new but seem slow, chances are high that they are just configured wrong or that you have a spyware problem. Here's why your computers may be going so slow:
Spyware is a program that sneaks on to your computer and keeps track of what you are doing, mostly which web sites you visit. This information is then sent to some distant party to analyze your behavior for marketing purposes. Besides invading your privacy, all this tracking eats up your computer's power and uses your Internet bandwidth for someone else's benefit.
Spyware can install itself invisibly when you click on a malicious website (it exists only to install spyware) or hacked website (a legitimate web site that has been unknowingly compromised). No longer do you need to knowingly install a new program for spyware to infect your computer. There are also many free programs that give you cute cartoons for your e-mail, a "cool" search bar or entertaining cursors for your web browser. There are exceptions, but virtually all of the "free" software that you get on the Internet, installs spyware or adware.
In our experience, virtually every business computer we look at has some spyware on it unless it has been protected properly. Some are worse off than others, but why would you want to give up any of your computer power?
