Wireless Networks
Wireless networking is very cool. Right? Free your computers from wires and gain mobility. But is wireless networking safe? The simple answer is yes, as long as you set it up properly. But there are two concerns you should be aware of:
- Most wireless kits you buy at a retail store are not configured safely if you just plug them in and start playing.
- Wireless networks have more risk and are noticeably slower than wired local area networks.
The next question is should you invest in wireless? If you are the owner and you want a wireless network just because it is "cool", then fine. If you need to cost-justify a wireless network, then there are many legitimate cases where wireless is the way to go. For example, just avoiding the cost of putting in new wires makes wireless make sense.
So if you're going for wireless, you do need to do more than just 'unplug'. Wireless networks need to be configured properly or you could open yourself up to be hit by intruders. The good news is that the proper settings are easy to do - if you know what you're doing. If you don't, no worries, we can free you from the risk of figuring out the configuring. And give you the peace of mind that you're secure and safe in your wireless world.
